Silicon Carbide is a kind of non-metallic carbide combined with silicon and carbon. Through raw materials such as quartz sand, petroleum coke, wood chips, etc. It is melted by an electric furnace at high temperature, with a hardness of 9.5. Common silicon carbide is black or black-blue in appearance, which has the advantages of stable chemical properties, good wear resistance, and high thermal conductivity. Since silicon carbide is a semiconductor, it has an anti-oxidation effect at high temperatures. Industrial silicon carbide generally has a silicon carbide element content of 70 to 90% and contains a small amount of free carbon and other impurities.
With the advantages of high hardness, high temperature resistance and well deoxidation effect, Silicon Carbide is widely used in functional ceramics, high grade refractories, abrasive materials and metallurgical material fields. It can be divided into four grades according to the content and usage.
